Post-hardcore mainstay Get Scared have announced that they will be going on hiatus.

On January 9th, guitarist Johnny Braddock posted a video to his YouTube channel explaining the reasoning for the break. “One thing about our band that we’ve never really gotten over is communication," he said. "That’s something that our band has . . . always lacked.” Braddock partially attributed the breakdown to vocalist Nick Matthews’ marriage and subsequent drug addiction, stating that Matthews “fell into heroin.” Changes in Matthews’ behavior had alarmed the band members and he admitted to his drug use. Matthews has been in and out of treatment and the band has been having difficulty reaching him.

Given the situation, the five-piece from Ohio decided to cancel their upcoming tour and delay the release of their fourth studio album. Braddock has stated that the band has not been communicating with each often in the wake of the decision to take a break from their group activities.

“Being in a band is supposed to be fun,” he elaborated. “It turned into this burden of arguing and uncertainty.”

Braddock further went on to state that the band is very proud of their new album and that they still plan on releasing it, although no date has been set. He thanked fans for their support over the years and says he hopes to see more side projects and releases from his bandmates.

Get Scared posted the video to their official Facebook page on January 16th, where Braddock assured fans he’d do his best to answer any questions they had concerning the state of the band and their music.
