Review: Papa Roach - 'Who Do You Trust?'

Papa Roach ‘Who Do You Trust’

Iconic California rock band Papa Roach released their new album Who Do You Trust? Friday, January 18 via Eleven Seven Music. The LP marks Papa Roach's tenth studio album, featuring 12 hard-hitting tracks that prove rock is still far from dead.

The opening track ‘The Ending,’ has a futuristic introduction that builds up to the first verse of the song -- something you’d hear straight out of an episode of Netflix's Stranger Things.’

‘Renegade Music,’ the second song on the album, takes a very different approach than your typical Papa Roach sound yet still holds one of the catchiest choruses on the entire album.

The eponymous track ‘Who Do You Trust?’ is the album anthem with yet another catchy chorus that displays lead singer Jacoby Shaddix’s renowned raspy vocals so well.

Although ‘Come Around’ isn’t necessarily an orthodox rock song, it is easily one of the strongest songs on the album. The instrumentals are intriguing and well-fitting with the vocal style of the album.

‘Better Than Life’ is the last track on the album and is catchy, upbeat, and simple; a solid way to end an album.

While Who Do You Trust? overall sounds much different than previous Papa Roach albums and doesn’t necessarily strike as a true rock album, it isn’t a bad listen at all. One thing is clear, however. The album definitely gets better as you make your way down the tracklist.
