Awaken I Am Tug At Heartstrings With New Song 'Kin'

Australian band Awaken I Am recently released the second song off their five-song EP, The Beauty in Tragedy, out April 26. There is an accompanying music video for the song, titled ‘Kin’. The video opens with a tribute to their deceased guitar player, Connor Verner-Oakley, who passed last year due to a tragic car accident. News footage and audio of the accident are shown before the song kicks in. Instant goosebumps arise. The gist of the car accident was that a woman was purposely driving on the wrong side of the road in hopes of killing herself. Instead, she lived, and the band lost their closest friend. This song, Kin, is about the situation and is definitely an emotional listen. A lyric that sticks out is “What I once loved now just brings pain, and what brought pain has become my escape”.

The video displays the many faces of Connor’s friends and family. Shattering glass can be seen toward the end of the video, signifying the car crash that took his life. The song and video overall is indefinitely a beautiful tribute to Connor. You can watch the video here:
