Sudden Sky’ is the Destination in the New, Crown The Empire Single

Isn’t it nice to feel at peace with oneself? To feel like one is living their best life? That sounds good to me. Metalcore outfit, Crown The Empire, talk about the search for one’s authentic self in their new single, ‘Sudden Sky’. Released on Friday, April 5, 2019, the track grabbed me with its ambient sounds and cool metaphors. 

 Right from the get-go, I get the feeling that I am hearing this song in the distance. Vocalist, Andy Leo, almost sounds like he is singing into a megaphone. Giving the band a particular sound, however, losing some of its heavy-ness in the process. In fact, I could easily imagine this song as a pop-punk or acoustic track. Just take away the low-tuned guitars and heavy bass and you’re there. Leo’s tenor voice would do the job well.

 Aside from the pop-punk potential, I heard some Asking Alexandria influence in this inspirational song. The distorted vocals with abrupt vocal disappearances throughout lines or words instantly reminded me of The Black. Not a bad album to be compared to.

 ‘Sudden Sky’ is akin to euphoria. The song details the extravagance with the lines “Float away, come alive. On our way to the sudden sky”. But why ‘sudden sky’, why isn’t ice cream or sex the thing that makes us feel alive? Well, I believe this is a metaphor, with the sky representing clarity. So when you reach the “sudden sky”, you finally can see yourself. But maybe that’s my own identity search taking hold of this song.

 With a good message and sound unique to the band, I believe ‘Sudden Sky’ will do well with the band’s fans.
