Review: Ghostemane Goes From Hip Hop to Hardcore with “Fear Network” EP
Rapper Ghostemane, best known for ‘Mercury: Retrograde’ and ‘1000 Rounds’, has recently dropped a new Hardcore EP titled Fear Network. Although this may seem like a shocker to some fans, Ghostemane has been passionate about hardcore music for quite some time. If you didn’t already pick up on his fusion of rap and metal in his previous releases, we now know he was in the hardcore band ‘Nemesis’ in the past. It’s no surprise that Ghostemane has been a favorite for most hip hop and metal listeners for quite some time. With a mixture of Industrial Inspired vocals, black metal fusion and hip hop beats, it seems that Ghostemane can relate to a number of different listeners.
Much like his fast paced lyrics, each song on the EP is under two minutes. Surprisingly with the whole EP being under 5 Minutes, it is a huge punch to face in all the right ways.
‘Martial Law’ is the first track on the EP coming in at a total of 53 Seconds. Distortion, Double Bass, industrial guitar riffs, and massive growls makes this song capture listeners attention from the Start. Although you might not know what you’re listening to, the one thing forsure is that you’ll love every second of it.
‘Pink Mist’ follows with a total of 1 minute and 19 seconds. It’s easily the most fast paced on the EP but the cowbell and screams make it enjoyable. It’s easily something that will have circle pit goers anxiously waiting to join the pit.
‘Carbomb’ was my favorite song on the EP due to the combination of Hardcore and Rap inspired lyrics. It’s the most traditional side of Ghostemane shown on the EP but without the his usual beats to back it. The breakdowns make for an interesting listening experience and you’re not sure what to expect next.
By the end of Fear Network you’re wanting more and due to the short amount of songs you are a bit unfulfilled. Although the EP is done really well and showcases a side of Ghostemane we don’t typically see, it does seem rushed. I hope to see Ghostemane continue to put out more releases like this. In the meantime we will keep our fingers crossed for a full length album in the future.
