Review: Machine Gun Kelly, Yungblud, and Travis Barker’s ‘I Think I’m Okay’
June 13th, 2019. The day the Unholy Trinity of Machine Gun Kelly, YUNGBLUD, and Travis Barker came together to release the masterpiece of a new song, ‘I Think I’m OKAY’.
This song starts off acoustic, with an upbeat tempo even though the lyrics suggest otherwise. Starting the song off with “I think something’s fucking wrong with me” sets up the tone for the rest of it. The song very quickly turns to focus on the misuse of alcohol and other drugs, even mentioning that it never helps. Once the drums come in, the song slowly builds up to the chorus, where the upbeat tempo really kicks in. It repeats the first acoustic part of the song as the chorus for an extra emotional pull, with YUNGBLUD coming in to sing the last part along with MGK.
YUNGBLUD takes over the second verse, reminding us just how talented of a vocalist he is. This verse slows down just a little bit as it digs deeper into drug use, then it vamps back up for the chorus again. Then we’re back at it again with the amazing vocals. As YUNGBLUD sings “goodnight” repeatedly over MGK’s emotional lyrics, the goosebumps really start forming in the last little bit of the song.
This was the collaboration no one knew we wanted, but now knows we needed. This song is pulling at heartstrings and leaving listeners in tears already. Basically, no one is ready.
