REVIEW: Palaye Royale - "Massacre, The New American Dream"

Palaye Royale

Last week, Palaye Royale released a new single titled “Massacre, the New American Dream.” and I don’t know how to feel about yet another song discussing our bad political climate.

Thanks to all the politically charged issues currently happening in the United States, 2019 has been chock full of these types of songs, especially from Palaye Royale. Before pressing play, I was already bored — not to say that the statements being made aren’t extremely important, I’m just sick of the same song being written over and over again.

Although I had my doubts about the song actually being unique or good, I adore singer Remington Leith’s vocals too much and it surprisingly ended up being worth the listen. As far as a political protest song goes, the production was very fitting. For example, Leith’s voice is distorted in the beginning to mimic someone yelling into a microphone. This was something I really appreciated and thought was a good decision to help the track be seen as a protest anthem.

I also find it very interesting how Palaye Royale have begun to take advantage of the more raspy side of Leith’s vocals in the past few singles that have been released, which really shows how talented the band is even when their song topics are the same. The consistency of how much power the band puts into every song astounds me and they still have yet to make a bad track.
