On Jan. 26, 2020, music industry professionals and artists spanning across all genres will gather for the most widely recognized night for music: the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards. The iconic ceremony will allow audiences to connect with music scenes they may not have encountered otherwise, especially in the case of I Prevail.

The Michigan-based metalcore band have garnered not one, but two nominations, marking their first ever for the prestigious ceremony. Their song “Bow Down” has been nominated for Best Metal Performance and their album Trauma has been nominated for Best Rock Album, alongside the legendary Bring Me the Horizon’s amo.

Since arriving on the scene in 2014, I Prevail have released one EP, Heart Vs. Mind, and two studio albums, Lifelines and now Trauma. They won the award for Best New Artist at the 2017 Radio Contraband Awards and their song “Alone” won the award for Hard Rock Song of the Year at the 2017 Loudwire Music Awards.

Not only do these successes so early in their career suggest a promising future for the band, but they also hold important implications for the scene community as well. The band’s recent recognition by The Recording Academy now offers them a platform to reach a wider audience and encourages new listeners to learn more about similar artists and the overall scene community.

I Prevail’s Grammy nominations build upon the hope instilled by previously nominated scene bands – such as My Chemical Romance, whose album The Black Parade was nominated in 2008 for Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package, and August Burns Red, whose song “Identity” was nominated in 2016 for Best Metal Performance – to create more inclusion of punk, metal, and hard rock musicians at a ceremony dominated heavily by hip hop and pop artists.

We reached out to I Prevail to comment on their nominations, but were told they were not available for press at this time.

The complete list of nominees for the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards can be found here.
