Bad Omens have released the deluxe edition of their sophomore record Finding God Before God Finds Me through Sumerian Records, which includes three additional tracks, “Never Know”, “Limits”, and “Come Undone”. “Never Know” was released as a single on December 17th, 2020, back when the re-release was first announced.

Bad Omens triumphantly burst onto the scene in 2016 with the release of their self-titled debut album, which was both applauded and scrutinized for the familiarity of sound to that of Bring Me the Horizon’s pinnacle album Sempiternal. The band certainly expanded their sound on their second effort, and that continues with these additional songs.

“Never Know” is sonically grand in its choruses, contrasting the quieter, almost haunting verses, which was a familiar trend throughout Finding God Before God Finds Me; however, it’s not exactly a genre-defining song with its straight-forward structure and relatively simplistic instrumentation. Front-man Noah Sebastian’s vocal performance is the saving grace for this song, as he delivers a truly beautiful melody on the choruses. “Never Know” has the potential to become a setlist staple for Bad Omens, but it certainly won’t define their career.

“Limits” and “Come Undone” explore a hard-rock oriented sound, while retaining certain ambient influences, particularly throughout “Limits”. It’s worth mentioning that the main riff on “Come Undone” sounds like something you would hear from an early 2000’s alternative rock band, such as Three Days Grace. It’s clear Bad Omens are aiming to show fans a range of styles, likely trying to break away from the ever-following Bring Me the Horizon comparison.

Considering this album was released just five months ago in August of 2019, it does seem quick to be releasing a deluxe edition. With only three new songs included, one of which being released as a single, it may have made more sense to continue to accumulate material and then re-release at a later date with more for listeners to sink their teeth into.

Fans will likely be able to hear one or more of the new tracks on their upcoming ‘Killed and Born Again’ tour, set to run from February 13th to March 28th of 2020. Oh Sleeper, Thousand Below, and bloodline will be supporting Bad Omens on this trek across the U.S.
