RANKED: My Chemical Romance

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Given the recent excitement surrounding the band, I have been tasked with ranking all of My Chemical Romance’s albums from absolutely amazing to amazing. I am going into this knowing that no matter how I rank these, there will be someone out there who will disagree, because let’s be honest, this task is next to impossible to agree on. With so many iconic tracks and different stylistic approaches between albums, it makes deciding extremely complicated.

My Chemical Romance are without a doubt one of the biggest bands to ever grace the scene. Coming from Newark, NJ and forming shortly after the 9/11 attacks, there is no way they could have ever predicted they would become as iconic as they are. They have established one of the most rabid, loyal fan bases I have ever seen and they deserve every ounce of success that they will continue to have.

To celebrate their return, we at Scene Daddy thought there would be no better time than now to rank the albums of a band that, needless to say, helped define emo in the mid-2000’s. I will only be ranking their four studio releases, 4 being my least favorite and 1 being my favorite, as well as listing some of the standout tracks from each release.

4) I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love

My Chemical Romance’s debut album is severely underrated, featuring the band at their “angstiest” and most abrasive sound. This is showcased on songs like “Our Lady of Sorrows” and “Demolition Lovers”. Some tracks can seem a little all over the place in terms of the vocal delivery, but there are moments on here when the band truly demonstrates their potential. The main reason why this is ranked as my least favorite is because it is much less cohesive as a project in comparison to their other releases. I know there are many dedicated fans who rank this as their favorite album, so perhaps you could change my mind on the matter.

Standout Tracks:

Honey, This Mirror Isn’t Big Enough for The Two Of Us

Demolition Lovers

Vampires Will Never Hurt You

3) Danger Days

I am sure that I will get some flack for placing this album above their debut album, but I am a sucker for an album with an overarching theme or concept. My Chemical Romance created another world for fans to immerse themselves in. Set in an apocalyptic 2019, Danger Days may have foreshadowed their eventual comeback. This album is packed with high energy tracks, such as “Party Poison”, as well as more melancholic tracks, such as “S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W” and “The Kids From Yesterday”, exemplifying a great deal of diversity that can be found throughout. Danger Days is a more cohesive delivery from the band, and I will defend its placement on this list until the day I die.

Standout Tracks:

The Only Hope For Me Is You

Party Poison

Summertime

Vampire Money

The Kids From Yesterday

2) The Black Parade

Simply put, The Black Parade is a timeless classic. From beginning to end, this album is a masterpiece and will certainly go down in history as one of the most iconic rock albums of the 2000’s. Very few bands are able to achieve this level of storytelling, without seeming over-the-top or forced, but My Chemical Romance did it almost effortlessly. The Black Parade elevated this band to a whole new level of stardom and cemented them as one of the greatest bands in scene history.

Standout Tracks:

Sleep

Dead!

The Sharpest Lives

This Is How I Disappear

Disenchanted

Famous Last Words

1) Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge

We have arrived at my favorite My Chemical Romance to date. Without a single skip-worthy song, the tragic love story that is Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge remains a scene classic today and I still cannot get enough of it. Between the angst and emotion in Gerard Way’s voice and the overall catchy-as-hell nature of the songs, this album is the anthem of an entire generation of teens. Not only have many other bands drawn influence from this album, but it allowed fans to become passionate about music and gave them a place where they could feel like they fit in.

Standout Tracks:

Give ‘Em Hell Kid

You Know What They Do To Us Guys Like Us In Prison

Thank You For The Venom

Cemetery Drive
