Emo pop-punk often gets these spells where the genre experiences a renewal of sorts, and out of it little glimmers of fantastic sound manifest in its wake. Bands such as Washington natives Midnight Skies are one of those vestiges within the emo pop-punk arena that are quickly proving their worth with their wildly infectious EP Disconnect, which was released via We Are Triumphant on January 24, 2020.

Midnight Skies

Midnight Skies

From the beginning, this EP is bleeding with energy. Vehemence atmospheric elements drench perfectly crafted lazy pop-soaked guitar chords, vitalic fast tempos, and bright catchy lyricism, serve to be an impressive start to Disconnect and give us a window for what’s to come for the rest of the EP.

Other colorful ditties, such as “Falling Apart”, give us that authentic new-wave pop-punk experience that is both deliciously contagious lyrically, as it is instrumentally. It’s puissance is something that is not matched within the other tracks and is sure to be a number that will sway listeners to constantly hit the replay button after it’s finished. The last tune dipped into on the EP, “Bloodthirsty”, is potent with unfamiliar alligator instrumental energy that will captivate the listener, as well as delight the audio senses with other powerful nouvelle vague soundscapes that completely steal the show till Disconnect comes to a satisfying close.

Disconnect is an EP that echoes pure brilliance in songwriting and instrumental composition that will keep you coming back for more, with each listening experience being better than the last.
