REVIEW: All Time Low - "Sleeping In"
Pop-punk kings All Time Low seem to have found a new life with their recent singles. “Sleeping In”, the second single from the forthcoming album Wake Up Sunshine - out on April 3rd - is upbeat, fun, catchy, and a completely different vibe than anything on Last Young Renegade.
"Sleeping In" sounds like a more elevated and mature version of the sound that we have come to know and love from All Time Low. They went back to the drawing board and honed in on what made them so successful. This song sounds exactly like where they should be in 2020. It’s new and exciting, while also remaining true to who they are.
Personally, the song to me makes me feel super nostalgic, and takes me back to when I first discovered "emo" music, bringing back all of the excitement surrounding that for me. If a song could sound like summer and take you back in time to feeling like it is 2009 again, this is the song.
From the first listen it is next to impossible to not get that chorus stuck in your head. The lyrics are about that feeling of being so carefree and happy with someone that you don’t care about anything that the outside world has to offer and losing track of days with that person. It is a feeling that I think a lot of us who have felt it can't wait to feel again
There is something interesting to this being the topic of the song, because to me it could almost be interpreted as a metaphor to how the band felt when they first got together and started writing music. It was their first love, and I interpret that Blink-182-style sound at the beginning to them going back to their roots and truly rediscovering that love all over again.
