In support of James Hetfield's recovery, Metallica have pulled out of two large festivals: Louder than Life and Sonic Temple. Recently, Metallica have cancelled New Zealand and Australia dates since James Hetfield took his health into priority and entered rehab in late September.

According to Hetfield's statement, he has two critical recovery events that cannot be changed, resulting in Metallica having to drop out of both Louder than Life and Sonic Temple. Only these two festivals are affected, and Hetfield specifically points out in his statement: "I want to stress that the band will play all other announced 2020 shows”.

In replacement of Metallica, Sonic Temple has added the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Slipknot, and Tool as headliners. A replacement for Louder than Life has not been named yet; however, starting Friday, February 28th both festivals will be emailing pass holders about refunds.
