In Hearts Wake have released a new song and music video for “Worldwide Suicide.” This Australian band starts the music video with a speech in the background and the artists playing their instruments in a burning home. In Hearts Wake are not only trying to bring attention to the Australian wildfires that lasted 210 days, but to all the modifications and plastics that are harming the Earth.

The band posted on their social media and YouTube channel about the track, which drew a lot of attention. Not only is the band trying to introduce new music with a strong and relevant message, but they are also planting one native tree for every 1,000 views on the music video. The band shared, “For every 1K views of this video, In Hearts Wake will plant 1 native tree to support the Earth. This will take place next Spring in Australia. We are totally dependent on the Earth & its inter-dependent ecosystems for our survival. To harm any part of it, is to harm ourselves. Ecocide is Suicide. Create and share awareness.”

In the music video, the band showcases the horrors in the world, including the Australian wildfires, GMO’s, blood money, digital distractions from the real world, and the unnecessary use of plastics and how they are suffocating. There is a long intro to the music video repeating, “This is an emergency. Our house is on fire,” which takes on many different meanings. Before the song begins, typed out is “Ecocide is Suicide.” Below the video, ecocide is described as:

“ecocide [ ee-koh-sahyd ]
noun
harmful human activity that violates the principles of environmental integrity and balance.
This includes damaging or destroying ecosystems, and harming the health and well-being of a species.
It has not yet been accepted as an international crime by the United Nations.”

This song has a strong message, that the band often portrays, while also being a bit heavier than listeners are used to. Viewers can tell that this message is not taken lightly and Taylor looks furious with the outcomes of the world. Not only is this a new vibe from the band, but the music video was also quite dark to showcase what they are preaching and the importance behind it. “Worldwide Suicide” is also available to download here and it is now available on streaming services.

Referencing the Earth in the lyrics, Jake Taylor sings about how our planet is dying; mostly from our hand. To highlight the significance of their message, “Worldwide Suicide” has only two stanzas of lyrics:

“It’s dying from the inside
It’s a wildfire lullaby
It’s the final kiss goodnight
It’s a worldwide suicide

Shooting dice with your fucking life
Snake eyes coming back to bite
Cashing out in the afterlife
What remains of a parasite
It’s a worldwide suicide.”

In relation to the music video, on March 15, Jake Taylor - the vocalist of In Hearts Wake - makes a personal video revolving around the chaos of the world. He appears to be at a loss for words, though he says what most people are thinking: “What the fuck is happening?” Not only has the Coronavirus been a concern for many, but he says he is not even scared of what it is doing compared to all the climate crises happening. Taylor says the virus is distracting because all people are hearing is bad news and a sense of hopelessness. Taylor believes that we can get through all of this, but we have to be the hope. People don’t need to globalize, but localize and be a community that works together to find beauty.

Jake Taylor is not only a musician, but a business owner. Taylor owns the company, Earthwalker Tribe, to “help bring like-minded people together” while “showing appreciation and respect for the natural world.” The garments are made with eco-friendly materials such as hemp plants and the tags are made of biodegradable plantable seed paper. So far, the brand has planted 13,900 trees, though during the crisis of the Australian fires, Earthwalker Tribe did something different. In an attempt to raise money, all funds from clothing bought would be donated to the ‘Wires Wildfire Rescue’ in addition to the tree being planted. Jake Taylor has made his vision known and hopes that others will support his cause and consider their ecological footprint.

In Hearts Wake is hoping to make an impact on many, as well as challenges listeners and followers to make a better mark on the world. The band links pages for viewers to follow up with “more reading, information and inspiration on the content of this video.” The band has not released new music since 2018, but it appears that they have now found their voice and are not holding back.
