Under-Appreciated Reimagined Tracks in the Scene
Whether it’s stripping a song down to the roots to let the message speak for itself, or simply wanting to put a new spin on a familiar sound, it’s not unlike bands to “reimagine” their own work. Here are some of the best reimagined tracks by some of the best in the bands in the scene currently.
Dayseeker - “The Burning Of Bridges (Reimagined)”
Dayseeker is no stranger to creating some of the most immersive re-imagined tracks in the scene and “The Burning Of Bridges” displays this in spades. With the original track debuting in 2015 , the band took the song again and redid the song with beautiful denuded movements. With deep acoustic resonance and Rory Rodriguez’s beautiful varied vocals that seem to sway from pretty high registered screams to gorgeous mid-range clean vocals, it's hard not to replay this version more than once.
Thousand Below - “Tradition Reimagined”
Thousand Below is a fairly new band to the scene, but what they lack in being around the block then make up for in their presence. Tradition (Re-imagined) is a track that will leave you awestruck by the end of the track. With a strong and unique grasp of really knowing how to make a moving record, the band takes these same techniques and applies them to “Tradition”. From start to finish, it's an emotionally compelling song that is made all the more powerful without all the bells and whistles. It's a track that sews its way into your soul, leaving a poignant effect long after it’s finished.
Northlane - “Solar (Acoustic)”
One of the most influential bands in modern metalcore, they remain one of the stepping stones in the scene to contend with when it comes to making “S” class records. The same can be applied to Mesmer’s “Solar”. Instead of the progressive, multi-layered instrumental atmosphere we are used to getting from the band, we are stripped of all these things and get something truly beautiful, showcasing why Marcus Bridge is one of the most talented unrivaled vocalists in the scene. Quite easily one of the most successful Australian bands to reach international appeal, this acoustic track shows that they are capable of putting aside all the instrumental dressings and creating something emotive and magical.
In Hearts Wake - “Waterborne (Reimagined)”
We return back to Australia for another one of the best metalcore acts in the scene. The band continues to shine not only for their flawless ability to fuse heavy and softer elements together, but to create a musical experience that drives home a message. With “Waterborne”, beneath the lyrical dexterity lies a message, but that is clearly driven home with its vividly expansive acoustic guitars, stripped down percussive movements, piano, and harmonica elements giving it a modern western feel without it feeling too campy or overdone. Its effortless changes from clean to unclean also balance out the track, keeping the nature of the song’s genre intact while also peeling back some of the instrumental layers to reveal a creative softer perspective to a heavy track.
Emery - “Under Serious Attack (Reimagined)”
This stands out for a quality reimagining solely because this doesn’t sound like Emery at all. Originally an EP of three songs given as a gift to Kickstarter backers, it was later turned into virtually another full-length release. This track in particular is just full of flavor and the cleans featured on this are some of the best put forth on Revival. With new instrumental elements and vocal faucets throughout, one can’t help but be severely impressed with this track.
August Burns Red - “White Washed (Remixed)”
With Constellations being released back in 2009, the band’s sound was not quite are dynamic and clean, but it still stands the test of time in the band’s career as one of their best full-length efforts to date. So when it came time to re-do this classic, the band focused all of their efforts into cleaning up the album’s sound, bringing it more in line with the production style of their recent efforts. For “Whitewashed”, this hands down showcases the quality in which the song was meant to be heard. The drums contain a punchier, crisp presence while the guitars and bass sound more individualized and not blending in together. Rest assured that when it comes to August Burns Red reimagining a track, you will get the best quality the song has to offer.
