As Dr. Seuss once said, “you know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.” This past weekend, As It Is vocalist Patty Walters announced his engagement to fiancé, Dottie James, via Instagram; a reminder to fans that love does exist if you know where to find it.

Amidst the celebration of love, the couple has asked, in lieu of comments of congratulations, friends and fans to donate to one of many charities contributing to the Black Lives Matter movement. The post includes a picture of two rings and a caption that reads “My best friend asked me to marry her, and I asked her to marry me. We have our whole lives to celebrate, so let’s not look away from the world that’s in front of us. Instead of or in addition to leaving any comments, please consider donating (if you can) to the causes in our bios. That would mean the world to us.”
