Nervous Light are the latest project to join the wealth of talent coming out of Australia, releasing their debut single “Haunt”. Fusing elements of the emo rap genre with elements of the early 2000’s post-hardcore days, this band cannot be placed in one specific genre, allowing them to explore a variety of influences.

Nervous Light were born out of the idea of having creative exploration, which certainly comes through on this track. “The single and band itself came from a place of wanting to have a bit of freedom to experiment with different elements and influences from genres like the "emo rap" and the Soundcloud world, while staying true to a 'full band' kind of archetype with heavy instrumentation, letting our influences from the pop-punk and post-hardcore realm shine through as well,” says frontman Jordan Olive. “The members of the band had previously come from pop-punk and metalcore bands, so it's been great to be able to not have any real restraints or barriers in place while carving out our own somewhat unique sound.”

“Haunt” opens with a characteristic electronic trap sample, though it does not last long, as this band crashes into a catchy post-hardcore-inspired chorus. Similar to how Falling In Reverse have completely abolished any genre labels on their recent material, Nervous Light seamlessly transition from one sound to another, incorporating flow and screams when they’re needed most. Immediately, you can discern the musical influences here. Olive continues, “Musically, it is heavily influenced by artists like Nothing, Nowhere., Familypet, and Lil Lotus - when it comes to the more electronic and trap elements - whilst also sonically taking influence from some of our favorite post-hardcore bands like Silverstein, Senses Fail, and Underoath, which will shine through in some of our other material coming soon.”

“Haunt” is a promising introduction to this up-and-coming band, and by the sounds of it, just a taste of what’s to come. Be sure to check out the single below and give this band a follow on all streaming platforms.
