REVIEW: Half Me "Mantis"
Last Friday, German band Half Me dropped a monster of a track in “Mantis.” The third independent release from the up-and-coming Nu-metalcore band, “Mantis” is a weighty confessional about a hard moment experienced in life eclipsed by a beautifully vicious instrumental presence.
From the gate, the track opens up with ferociously spirited unclean vocal delivery, accompanied with colossal guitar riffs and crisp fast-paced drum work that slaughters your auditory senses from start to finish. While most of the tune is painted with a heavy soundscape throughout, it is broken up with a small splash of clean vocals to balance out the thrashing energy “Mantis” brings from the very beginning.
Half Me effortlessly keeps the painful message of a personal grief-stricken experience alive, while flowing unchallenged through huge moments of technical instrumental prowess. The band had this to say about “Mantis” and the lyrical meaning behind it:
“Mantis” touches on a personal topic on how to mentally handle a suicide of a loved one for almost a decade, resulting in toxic thoughts, broken memories, and a manifested haunting persona. A downward spiral of emotions and sinking down to your lowest.”
