Melodic rock band Alternative Ties formed in 2014, but have just released their debut single “Before It Began” in September of this year. Drawing from various genres, including alternative rock, post-hardcore, and progressive rock, this band isn’t locking themselves into one sound just yet.

“Before It Began” is an atmospheric alternative rock song that sounds like a mix of Linkin Park’s later material with a hint of 3 Doors Down. Lyrically, “Before It Began” deals with one’s internal struggle with anxiety and depression. “Before It Began" was written when the entire world was stuck in their home during lockdown and maintaining social distancing,” says vocalist Amit Dasgupta. “For people who suffer from anxiety, depression, and insecurities, they tend to overcome it by spending time with friends or keeping themselves busy. But due to the social distancing norms, many of them around the world got stuck at home fighting a battle with their own minds. This song is a representation of that situation.”

Alternative Ties credits Three Days Grace, Escape The Fate, and Simple Plan as additional inspirations, suggesting their follow up releases may take on a completely different sound. Nonetheless, “Before It Began” is a good first step towards a successful career in alternative music, and has already gained them over 1000 monthly listeners on Spotify.

“Before It Began” is just the beginning of what’s to come for this band. They are currently recording their debut EP, which they hope to finish for an early 2021 release.
