Review: Unsettled Sight "Kratos"
Unsettled Sight is a modern technical deathcore band hailing out of Karlsruhe, German and they're bringing with them an unholy ode to a familiar face to video gamers everywhere, this is probably the filthiest thing to come out of the deathcore genre since Elysia was a popular band on MySpace. Taking influence from the massively successful video game franchise God Of War, "Kratos" is a vibrant technical display of eclecticism at full throttle. Unsettled Sight have brought an experimental edge to the genre, never settling for just blast beats and slamming chug breakdowns but taking the time to show technical death metal inspired guitar solos that pulse over soaring drum fills.
Long time fans of this brand of heavy music will find their musical palettes being tested as the band goes to great length to add a modernized spin to deathcore in an age of precision where musicians want the cleanest recordings, the bands not afraid to get downright malevolent and give their sound a bloodied blackened edge. The use of ominous choir synths and haunting whispers bring you into lyrics rich with the games Greek Mythology. Battling Gods and Thunder Dragons are a common theme, which feels almost at home. The metal genre is rooted in fictitious tellings of hero epics and this feels like it belongs, it's right at home in the severe instrumentals beating down at your ears.
"Kratos" proves that the German boys have a lot left in the tank and with their full length album "Hypnotized" slated to be released next year on a to be determined date, this song gives us a sense that there's definitely a reason to look forward to that full length. Check out the official lyric video below and be sure to keep a watchful eye on Unsettled Sight.
