Review: Variant "Harvest"

At a time where the world needs artists to challenge the system head-on in our current time, Florida native band Variant have come to join alongside many other artists in this front with their newest single "Harvest." With their bold presence and musical ingenuity, Variant has burst onto the scene to channel their inner venom and vitriol to expose the ugliness that lives and breaths in our current day to day lives.

The intuitive creation of Devin Ingelido, the groove metal/metalcore project came into existence after a period of musical reflection. After his time with well-known emo-pop act Versa Emerge, now known as Versa with Fueled By Ramen/Atlantic Records within the late 2000s, Ingelido looked forward in search of other musical endeavors. His musical journey would lead to teaming up with a friend and colleague Jani Melo of JMelo Recordings to co-write the band's first booming and electro-atmospheric single "Devil."

In April of 2019, Variant would pump out their second hard-hitting and melodic release, "Leech." The success of these two singles would fuel them to look for another member to continue the project. This would lead them to find and recruit drummer Wyatt Wood in mid-2019, where they would collectively release their third technical leviathan "Mosquito," creating international attention within the scene and genre.

Using their staple heavy technical-melodic guitar riffs, electronic soundscapes, poignant lyricism, and passionately heavy vocals throughout, "Harvest" drives the point home to recognize the atrocities illustrated in everyday culture and society. "Harvest" also embarks on the theme of acceptance, becoming apart of the machine that engraves these terrible things into our existence. Variant doesn't only want to be the topic of conversation within the music scene but also wants to spur change and a chance to work towards a better future. Variant has this to say about the track.

“Worldwide, children are stolen and sold to elite pedophile rings. So we took this opportunity to speak for those that don’t have a voice.”

"Harvest" will be the stepping stone for their upcoming 2021 EP. If Variant continues to deliver inspiring hits like this, sure enough, one of the industry's newest authentic and vibrant acts will place a memorable stamp on the modern rock scene.
