Synthwave/metalcore act Young Medicine has always shared an appreciation for all types of music when it comes to creating their music. Interlinked and their latest single "Winter Soldier" is a testament to their prismatic musical creativity. Now the Missouri band is back with Scene Daddy to share their musical tastes with us!

The first album I ever bought was?

Bret: In middle school, I heard a bunch of kids talking about classic rock bands, it made me go out and buy ACDC's Back In Black

Josh: N’Sync’s No Strings Attached, on cassette!

Michael: Sticks and Stones by New Found Glory. I remember a childhood friend had it and showed me the first track and I was instantly hooked. It was the music I knew I liked but couldn’t find, and when I found it, I was all about it.

An album I wish I created was?

Bret: Shrek: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Josh: Saosin’s self-titled album, 10/10…or maybe Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge

Michael: Playing drums on Attack Attacks’ Someday Came Suddenly would have been sweet. That album was a game-changer and sparked a new era of scene-ness.

Favorite Album Art?

Bret: Love the early Chiodos album art on All’s Well That Ends Well and Bone Palace Ballet by Paul Romano

Josh: I really like the album art for our first album, Interlinked, to be honest!

Michael: I’m a sucker for late 00’s metalcore style. Always had a thing for Motionless in White’s Creatures art.

Someone asked what my definition of metalcore was, the album I told them to listen to was?

Bret: Eighteen Visions - Vanity

Josh: Not my favorite metalcore albums by any means, but probably would recommend one of the classic “big ones” like Shadows are Security or The End of Heartache…they aren’t the first metalcore albums or anything, but definitely when it was first starting to get its polish

Michael: Plagues by Devil Wears Prada. It has all the right elements and came out in the golden era of metalcore.

An album I can drive around to nonstop is?

Bret: Don Broco - Technology

Josh: Daytime: Endless Summer by The Midnight... Nighttime: After Dark by Essenger

Michael: Take to the Skies by Enter Shikari. I could drive around, windows down, bumpin that album all day, any day.

An album I’m addicted to listening to is?

Bret: t.A.T.u. - 200 KM/H in the Wrong Lane

Josh: The Hot N’ Heavy by Drop Dead Gorgeous has been in my rotation since 2009

Michael: The Few and the Far Between by Vanna. It’s one of my favorite albums of all time, by one of my favorite bands of all time.

An album no one will believe I listen to or own is?

Bret: Shrek: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Josh: Charlie Brown’s Christmas, I guess I got it as a present once?

Michael: Laundry Service by Shakira. Definitely got that CD back in the day and am sure I still have it somewhere.

An album I detest most is?

Bret: Shrek: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Josh: Maybe the first EP our old band put out, I won’t even drop the name, no one should hear this.

Michael: Imagine Dragons. Anything by them.

An album that takes me back to my childhood is?

Bret: Shrek 2: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack... honestly a step down from the OG soundtrack though

Josh: Synchronicity by The Police

Michael: The Used (self-titled), by The Used. I vividly remember being in middle school just sitting and listening to this album with friends and thinking how amazing it was. Still feel that way about it.

An album that got me got me into my career as a musician?

An album that got me got me into my career as a musician?

Bret: Bullet for My Valentine - Hand of Blood

Josh: Decemberunderground by AFI, almost singlehandedly

Michael: Super tough to pick just one. Blink-182’s self-titled album had a huge influence on me actually wanting to play music for a career. I remember watching the “Feeling This” music video and thinking it was so cool and looked like tons of fun and was like “yeah I could do that” haha.

The soundtrack to my life would be?

Bret: Backstreet Boys - Black and Blue

Josh: A good mix of synth music, movie soundtracks, and cheesy metalcore

Michael: Lots and LOTS of metalcore, with a little bit of hip-hop, sprinkled in.

An album that will always hold sentimental value is?

Bret: Silverstein - Discovering The Waterfront

Josh: My Chemical Romance - Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge

Michael: Nightmare Anatomy by Aiden really sparked my love for spooky stuff, that style of music, clothing, and everything about it. I remember seeing the “Knife Blood Nightmare” music video and loving Wils’ style.

If you were left stranded on an island with nothing but a CD player, batteries, and one album, which album would you want to be left with to pass the time?

Bret: Jekyll and Hyde The Musical

Josh: Maybe something kind of chill with lots of content so I won’t drive myself crazy, a game soundtrack like Oblivion or Fable I

Michael: Definitely Discovering the Waterfront by Silverstein. It has the perfect blend of heavy and soft songs; something for every mood.

This album got me through 2020?

Bret: Final Fantasy VII Remake Original Soundtrack

Josh: Opal Noir by Bestrack, according to my Spotify Rewind

Michael: Not an album, but a single. “Hypa Hypa” by Eskimo Callboy. It’s the jam.
