Subliminal Landmines Riding the Release of 'Gibberish' Into 2021

Louisiana-based punk band Subliminal Landmines released their second full-length Gibberish on October 31st, 2020, not letting the difficult year that was 2020 get them down. It’s the follow-up to 2019’s Captivity, and a definite progression in sound and style.

With a rough and gritty punk sound familiar to Dookie-era Green Day, the classic punk rock influences can be found throughout the entirety of the record. It’s fast-paced, with flowing bass lines, grungy riffs, and rhythmic percussion that anchors each and every track. These elements are exemplified in the hit track “Where’s My Coke?”, which is now available on both of our official playlists.

Gibberish covers a wide range of topics related to human emotion, and its name is meant to represent these themes throughout. “The theme of the album is pretty much based on human emotion, based on past and current experiences,” says the band. “The album is called Gibberish because it’s pretty all over the place when it comes to topics and emotion; its basically bipolar. The songs go from sad to happy to angry to eating each other’s brains.”

Later in the album we also get tracks with a much rougher edge that sounds like their straight off the original Tony Hawk Pro-Skater soundtrack. “Our musical influences and inspiration come from some of our favorite bands, including Green Day, Blink-182, and Alkaline Trio.” They continue, “Most of all, we just love to write and play music and have a good time with everyone who enjoys listening and can relate to our music; that's what really keeps us going.” If the early Green Day influences weren’t already in your face, the band caps off this 12-track effort with a cover of classic Insomniac tracks in “Brain Stew / Jaded".

Subliminal Landmines plan to keep their energy high going into 2021: “This year we plan to release some new music, host a live stream show, do our fair share of interviews, put out some new merch, and hopefully play some actual shows if the virus restrictions let up!” For fans of this well-established genre, be sure to jump on the Subliminal Landmines train now, because there’s plenty more to come soon!
