Anchor The Appetite: Little Rock Band With Big Potential
Anchor The Appetite is a multifaceted young alternative rock project from Little Rock, AR breaking genre boundaries with each and every track they release. With their latest single “Paper Plane”, the band is breaking their way into the ever-popular genre of pop-punk with one thing on their mind: crank up the energy!
Taking inspiration from the likes of Silverstein, Anchor The Appetite strives for diversity throughout their catalogue of releases. Prior to the release of “Paper Plane”, their recent single “Change” was a post-hardcore anthem that would fit alongside recent releases from The Used or Dance Gavin Dance. “For many that know our sound, we are always unexpected and create different genre influences to most of our songs,” says the band. “We love being diverse. We feel that prioritizing a single genre to captivate an audience becomes boring over time and removes our potential. We want to be able to expand ourselves outwards, to different sounds and reach more people that feel the same way. Sure, hyper-focusing on a single genre/sound can be rewarding on it's own, but for us, presenting the multi-genre facet under one brand is a device for how emotion will be manifested in a song, rather than a defiance against categorization. One of our favorite bands, Silverstein does just this.”
“Paper Plane” sounds straight out of 2009, with it’s bouncy instrumentation and high-energy “easycore” nature. “Paper Plane” started out as a simple rock song and grew into an energetic, alt pop-punk banger once we worked things out in our studio.” They continue, “It was influenced by some of our favorite bands that deliver the same energy; early 2000’s inspirations really pulled it all together. Taking Back Sunday, Meet Me @ The Altar, The Story So Far, A Day To Remember, and State Champs are probably some of our biggest contributors to this track. Paper Plane is just one of the many new tracks we've been working on since the pandemic of 2020.” “Paper Plane” is a prime example of showcasing how much the genre of pop-punk has grown over the years, and that is reflected in the wide range of influences. From the classic “pop-punk with breakdowns” style of an A Day To Remember to the new-age of Meet Me @ The Altar, there’s something here for any fan to enjoy.
“Paper Plane” is the first single of 2021, but definitely not the last. “We previously had an album planned for 2021, but it was cancelled due to a lineup drop,” says the band. “We lost tracks on that album and we didn't feel that it portrayed itself as it once was without them. Since then, our goal has been shifted to writing, tons of practice, and providing high quality single releases for our listeners. The massive break from the virus has placed us in a position to become better musicians as a whole. ” Despite the ongoing circumstances that surround the music industry, Anchor The Appetite are setting themselves up for a successful career in alternative music, which will only continue to grow.
