“I’d Feel Like the Old Dude at the Skate Park Being Run Over by Kids on Scooters”

Punk and it’s subgenres are inherently nostalgia-fueled, which is why it comes as no surprise when you have the “old dudes” still kicking around the stage - I mean, Mark Hoppus is going to be 50 on his next birthday. Mark Lovett (formerly Mark Lovett Music) is a solo pop punk artist under the name of 360 Phoenix Flip, inspired by the likes of NOFX to mark his place in the punk world.

After releasing the self-titled EP earlier this year, Mark has since released two new singles - “Keep dreaming” and “Day in the life” - on his path to releasing new music every six weeks until he just can’t anymore! “They say practice makes perfect, so I’m already 5 releases into my new release strategy - which is to release a new song every 6 weeks,” says Mark. “Day in the life” is song number 6, so right now I still plan to carry on releasing songs at this pace until I’m just not able to anymore. It’s a very effective strategy to me and I’m definitely getting better with each release; figuring out what marketing techniques really work for me, and which ones don’t, and of course, I’ve only just started really!

“Day in the life” is a classic skate-punk track that would fit well in any of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater soundtracks. Instrumentally and lyrically, it’s easy to pick up on the early punk influences, embodying the sound and spirit of the rebellious formative years. “My influences range from the obvious blink-182, Rufio, and Andrew WK, to Owl city.” Mark continues, “The lyrics are pretty straight forward in this release; in some ways I feel like the same person I was maybe 10 years ago, but also in many ways, I’m definitely not. I think the artwork represents that pretty well; if I were to go back to doing what I was doing 10 years ago, I’d feel like the old dude at the skate park being over run by kids on scooters.”

For any fans of the genre, Mark is planning to continue this ambitious release schedule of a new song every six weeks. Be sure to follow him on all social media outlets, as well as Spotify to be notified of the next project!
