This past Friday October 14th was a big day for Californian independent record label Thriller Records! The label is a relatively new endeavour launched by Bob Becker, the founder of the alt scene staple Fearless Records, in partnership with InVogue Records founder Nick Moore. They have already signed a collection of fresh artists, three of which dropped new music on the 14th!

One of the three Thriller releases from last Friday came from alternative metalcore group Outline In Color with their new album Coast is Clear. The record incorporates heavier metalcore parts, hard rock influenced riffs, electronic flourishes, catchy hooks, and more, with multiple features bringing their own personal touches to the work as well. The ambitious effort is clearly a labor of love, as Outline In Color have said regarding the album, “A decade of writing about our daily lives has led us here, to what feels like the beginning of our career. With an opportunity to finally share our most personal experiences with the world. This record is a reflection of our feelings during the pandemic, our stories from life on the road and personal struggles we faced to make it to this point. We hope this collection of songs will serve as a history book for the underdogs … The album is a painting of our journey to realizing ourselves, our realization that the coast is clear." Alongside the album release, the group premiered their music video for one if its songs, “Fight Fair”. You can hear Outline In Color perform this new material live on tour this fall as they are one of the supporting acts for the Attack Attack! Level Up Tour!

AVOID, who feature on one of the tracks from their labelmates Outline In Color’s album, also released music on Friday. Their single “Can’t Take This Away” can be found on their upcoming album Cult Mentality, which will be out on November 4th. AVOID vocalist Benny Scholl said the song is “one of the tracks we’re the most proud of” and that, “We got to experiment a lot on this song, while also still finding a way to make it us. It sparked from us taking a stab at re-imagining a song from our 2018 record Alone and we just couldn’t get it right, so we shifted focus, left a couple little Easter eggs of course, and pretty quickly that turned into ‘Can't Take This Away.’" AVOID are also part of an exciting tour package this fall, as they will soon be hitting the road with The Plot In You, Silent Planet, and Cane Hill.

Alternative pop artist Kailee Morgue is yet another member of the Thriller Records roster who put out a song on the 14th, with her full album Girl Next Door due out on October 28th. The single is a vulnerable look at Morgue on her toughest days, delivered in the form of a bouncy and slick pop jam. Morgue states, "This song started as a funny thought I had to myself of "a bad day for me is a good day for my dealer." I knew I wanted to write about it but not in a way that glorifies how crippling mental illness can be. The lyrics are very candid and truthful.”

With all this new music coming from them in just one day, keeping up to date with Thriller Records is an obvious move for any alternative music fan. Learn more about the label and their roster here!
