It’s A Promising Horizon For Australian Rock Outfit Skies Collide
Six years removed from the release of their debut self-titled EP, Skies Collide continue to evolve their sound on their new Horizon: Zero Dawn-inspired single “Bloodstream”. Combining the high-energy electronic rock of recent Architects with the infectious pop melodies of a PVRIS, “Bloodstream” is an instant add to any playlist.
Electronic-driven rock anthems have become the new norm in our ever-evolving genre of heavy music, which Skies Collide embrace completely on “Bloodstream”. While this transition may not have been a conscious one, it was certainly inspired by the bands they take influence from. “In recent years, the music we listen to has become really diverse and that has made a huge impact on how we draw influence and how we approach our song writing in general,” says the band. “We love music that sounds epic and feels all-encompassing, so we have been incredibly inspired by bands like Bring Me the Horizon and Architects, as well as a lot of pop/electro artists like Grimes, Purity Ring and PVRIS.”
“Bloodstream” was inspired by the popular video game Horizon: Zero Dawn, and deals with topics of self identity and conformity. “There is definitely a hint of our love for epic, action movies and games weaving throughout the sound and lyrics of “Bloodstream.” They continue, “The lyrics talk about feeling outcast and having to prove your value as dictated by society’s expectations and standards. It’s about the grief of losing your individuality and resisting the notion that we are all just ‘cogs in the machine’.”
It’s a bright and promising horizon for Skies Collide, with concerts officially allowed to return in their home country of Australia. They are scheduled to support Sydney native’s Redhook, along with up-and-coming alternative rock act All Hours, this Friday, April 30th. Tickets are available now!
Aside from touring, Skies Collide have plenty more content coming in 2021 for fans to enjoy; “We have a few more songs up our sleeve which we cannot wait to release! We are going to be putting out a new cover of a song by our favourite artist from New Zealand! As well as a few more chilled acoustic covers in between.” Stay up-to-date with the latest from Skies Collide by subscribing to their YouTube channel, and be sure to check out the official music video for “Bloodstream” below.
