A Faithful Betrayal Officially Release Debut EP 'Everstone'
Post-hardcore up-and-comers A Faithful Betrayal have officially released their debut EP Everstone, consisting of 6 tracks, 3 of which were released as singles. Taking the overwhelming message of growth, love, and acceptance as the primal structure of the band, the band continues to embody that concept throughout the EP.
“I found myself struggling in each of those aspects for quite some time, so I decided to focus on a creative outlet to pull myself, and anyone else in a similar situation, away from those constrictions,” says vocalist Andrés Hernandez. “In a pressured timeline that the majority of the world is facing due to the global pandemic and injustice captured on social media, it’s very important for individuals to stand up and express themselves.”
Everstone builds tension from the first note of “Everything the Light Touches”. A slow and thoughtful introduction transitions into a fury of instrumentation, just long enough to grab the listeners attention, but not long enough to metaphorically “show all their cards”. Progressing into the lead single “Wingweaver,” A Faithful Betrayal display an instrumental restraint that once again fills the listener with a sense of tension that is cashed in around the 2:50 mark, when all that restraint is let go and the song crashes around you.
Elsewhere, “Athelas” - the most recent single released - showcases a different side of the band. A bass-heavy introduction and polished clean-to-scream transitions throughout the chorus emphasize what this band is capable of, but it is the brief rap-inspired bridge - delivered by Nvdeem - that adds flavor to an already indulgent track, taking this song to another level of unique. While this trend has not always been executed well in the past, this bridge perfectly sets up the pummelling climax of “Athelas”, making it a clear standout on the EP.
The band credits the title track, “Everstone”, as the strongest track on the EP. “It’s a very emotional piece that was initially focused towards another individual, but became more and more relatable to myself as time progressed.” Bringing back the restrained tension found earlier on the EP, the band pushes the tempo and delivers the strongest chorus thus far.
When it came to writing and producing the record, the band were able to work with some creatives to introduce some pop-culture references throughout. “Jacob Liepshutz (SycAmour), Sammy Morales (who has worked with artist such as Dan Watson, Rings of Saturn and Loser) and I were able to contribute our creative talents to construct these diverse tracks.” Andrés continues, “It’s heavily layered with Easter eggs throughout its run time with content that I found relatable to the message conveyed in each track. For instance - Everstone is an item in the Pokémon universe that prevents your monster from evolving and Athelas is a The Lord of the Rings reference.”
A Faithful Betrayal as a project was born out of the “twentyninescene” gimmick, inspired by acts of the early “scene” days, such as Underoath, The Devil Wears Prada, and Silverstein. If you’re a fan of any of these scene staples, we highly recommend giving this band a listen. You can find the title track “Everstone” below and on our official Spotify playlist.
