Mississippi-based modern rock band NVision are continuing to make the most of 2020, with the release of their latest single “Show Stopper”, the follow-up to “She Said” earlier this year. With both of these singles, it is readily apparent that the band has an immense talent for writing powerful, full-sounding hooks, sure to get stuck in your head.

Previously quoted as embodying “a powerful sound and message that typically only comes with years of experience honing your craft”, “Show Stopper” showcases this once again. NVision have taken the pop-sensibility of “She Said” and double-down on it with “Show Stopper”, while retaining a metalcore-inspired, crunchy riff throughout. The band have found a way to blend these somewhat contrasting sounds extremely well, placing them in a lane of their own - with regards to sound.

Lyrically, “Show Stopper” is a classic story of a guy losing the girl to another guy, with a personal view from vocalist Alex Carr. “This song is basically what I went through with my divorce,” says Carr. “As with all my music, I hope people can relate and go, “hey I’m not alone in this.” Because when I was going through that, I felt so very alone.”

While the song takes a few shots at “the other guy” - as in the lyrics “Smooth words like the viper in the garden, lay in wait like a coward in the darkness” - it becomes even more personal throughout. Carr continues, “as it rolls into the hook, it takes a more serious tone and you hear the struggle of a man left with thoughts of not being good enough.” On top of blending the contrasting instrumentals, NVision mix the tragic lyrical content flawlessly into the upbeat nature of the rest of the band, which is an achievement all on its own.

“Show Stopper” is now available on Spotify and can be found on our official Scene Daddy playlist. Check out the live performance video for “Show Stopper” below!
