Michigan natives, Citizen, surprised fans with a brand new track entitled ‘Big Mouth’ on Monday. A new album hasn’t been announced yet, but is likely on the way as the band continues touring their 2017 record, As You Please. The band hasn’t released any music in the two years since that release, aside from frontman Mat Kerekes releasing his much acclaimed second solo LP Ruby.

From the first few seconds of the song, which opens with a genuinely funky bass riff, it’s clear that this is a new direction for the band, who usually teeter somewhere between post-hardcore and emo. This track also marks the first official release from the band that is not produced by Will Yip, but Peter Katis, a former Interpol and The National collaborator.

Citizen is currently touring with Knuckle Puck, Hunny, and Oso Oso. You can check the dates and purchase tickets here.
