The band that gives you whiplash in terms of their style is back with their sophomore album PHASES.  The always wonderful Australian band Chase Atlantic seems to never stop making music this being their second release this year. Which is pretty impressive if I do say so myself. This album, in particular, had a massive amount of hype prior to its release both from the fans that haven’t gotten a full-length album since 2017.

Luckily it was well worth it and the album is very deserving of its all-caps titles. Chase Atlantic is known for blurring the lines between music genres taking most of their influence from hip-hop and pop, while somehow also popping up on 2018’s Warped Tour lineup. They are more emo-rap than anything,g but still especially on this album, their songs vary stylistically.

Some of my favorites already would have to be ‘STUCKINMYBRAIN’ even though it was released before the entire album it was the only one out of the three singles that I actually loved from the start considering the others had to grow on me. ‘TOO LATE’ was another that I instantly fell in love with.

The entire aesthetic of the PHASES album reminds me a lot of an old “lost” ep of theirs Paradise (lost meaning only available now on Soundcloud and Youtube). But this song in particular had the same feel and it was nice to see that Chase Atlantic has stuck with some of their older sounds. And lastly ‘I NEVER EXISTED’ in particular the second verse containing Christian Anthony’s vocals was too spectacular not to mention.

Actually, both Mitchel Cave’s and Christian Anthony’s vocals on the album are amazing. Admittedly like everyone else  I was a little worried at the beginning with the vocal effects that were added to ‘HER’ that the entire album was going to be an auto-tuned disaster. But thankfully it was a bit more toned down for the rest of the album.
