Before we start looking ahead to what the new year may hold for our scene, the staff writers at Scene Daddy have compiled their list of the top 5 albums (and EP’s) of 2019. Given the strength and sheer number of releases this year, it was more than a challenge to narrow this list down to just five, but our writers were up to the task. Please enjoy and let us know who you agree with, and what other albums were worthy of placement on our lists!

1. Dayseeker - Sleeptalk
I have had this album on repeat ever since it came out. Rory Rodriquez has to be my favourite vocalist in the scene and he carries this band to new heights with this release. The emotion his voice holds, combined with the dreamlike instrumentation and hard-hitting punches that Dayseeker is known for, makes Sleeptalk their strongest release to date. This album finds Dayseeker honing in on a sound that I am sure will make them one of the most memorable bands in the scene.

1. The Regrettes - How Do You Love
How Do You Love is catchy, simple, and fun. The Regrettes put out an album tracing the highs and lows of a relationship that feels relatable to anyone who’s felt sickenly in love. Between doo-wop harmonies and bouncy punk riffs, How Do You Love is sure to get stuck in your head like it’s been stuck in mine.

1. Knocked Loose - A Different Shade of Blue
I know this may ruffle some feathers, but Knocked Loose essentially revived hardcore with the release of A Different Shade of Blue. This band delivers 38 minutes of intense, melodic brutality and it’s exactly what I was looking for in a heavy album in 2019, with it’s challenging lyrics and onslaught of breakdowns. Knocked Loose went from being a band I actively avoided to a band that fills up my Spotify Wrapped countdowns, all because of this one album.

1. Badflower - OK, I’m Sick
OK, I’m Sick was the first album I actually sat down to listen to in 2019. It helps that I had to review it for Scene Daddy, but I haven’t been able to let it go all year. Debut albums always have so much heart to them and I really liked how strong the album sounds as a whole.

1. Bring Me the Horizon - Amo
Amo is the first album from the band in quite some time and while they changed their sound direction, they executed it very well, making each song unique and engaging. It also opened my eyes to new sounds from other bands, which is likely why I enjoyed the new album from Issues so much.

1. Wage War - Pressure
Wage War continues to impress me; Pressure was just over the top, capital A, Awesome. I loved the seamless flow from track-to-track, the story of finding your identity, and the awareness of mental health. It delivers banger-after-banger and I still can’t stop singing several tracks from this album.
