Boise-based rock band A Residual Affinity released their debut album I Think It’s Safe to Assume We’re All Dead on December 31st, 2019 through Beyond Conviction Records. Capping off 2019 with a statement, this band channels their post-hardcore influences to produce a well-versed collection of familiar, yet unique songs.
From the introductory song “I Don’t Wanna Be a Tragic Backstory”, A Residual Affinity embrace an early 2000’s emo sound, reminiscent of an early Silverstein, particularly in their guitar work. Selective screaming elements compliment the fast-paced nature of songs such as “Too Cheerful for Morticians”, while not overpowering the overall sound. Elsewhere, this bands explores a melodramatic pop-punk side, with a standout catchy chorus, in “Stitches in Portrait Mode”. On top of it all, this band is bringing back the scene trope of unnecessarily long song titles, such as “You, Me, and This Brickwall You Built Between Us”, which has to earn some credit in itself.
Certainly a formidable debut album from this up-and-coming band, you can find A Residual Affinity on Spotify and various social media outlets. Check out “Stitches in Portrait Mode” on the Scene Daddy playlist now!
