Earlier this week, Fit For A King debuted “God of Fire” on the first night of their headlining Dark Skies world tour. The release date of this single was anticipated for March 13, 2020. Instead, the band pleasantly surprised us with another single, “Breaking The Mirror” on March 13th, leading us to believe we will get the release of “God of Fire” in the future.
“Breaking The Mirror” is the first release since Fit For A King’s 2018 LP release Dark Skies. In comparison, it reflects closely with “The Price of Agony”, making some wonder if "Breaking the Mirror" simply just didn't make the cut. The song consists of familiar Fit For A King sounds, with heavy and fast instrumental work, beautifully executed clean choruses, and hefty metalcore verses.
The breakdowns alone will have you headbanging along, with their unique guitar patterns leaving a lasting impression upon the first couple of listens. While percussively they are always sharp and consistent, ultimately what stands out the most is the instrumental work towards the end of "Breaking the Mirror". A great instrumental solo, the vocals just prior provide an even more intense and intriguing experience.
With a new album due out this year, Ryo Kinoshita -vocalist of Crystal Lake - is said to be featured on one of the songs. It’ll be interesting to see what sound the new album takes and if it will reflect the Dark Skies LP in the way that this new single has.
Overall, "Breaking the Mirror" is a great song and well worth checking out. You can listen to “Breaking the Mirror” below!
