On Friday June 12th, Sharptooth casually released a new single entitled “The Gray” via Brooklyn Vegan. Despite sliding under the radar with no warning of a single even being dropped, fans were ecstatic once they noticed a new song was available on all streaming services. On YouTube, a lyric video was released which included a compilation of black and white footage and Roblox gameplay. From melodic breakdowns to relatable lyrics, personally, this song is for sure a new favorite of mine.

As per usual, Sharptooth writes songs with a punk message that the community needs to hear. In a discussion with Brooklyn Vegan, vocalist Lauren Kashan described the meaning of “The Gray.” “It’s about the search for and discovery of a world beyond boundaries, beyond textbooks, beyond diagnoses, beyond red or blue. It’s about the power we unlock when we make that discovery. It’s about neuroplasticity, and the ability of each and every one of us to change our minds, both conceptually and literally. It’s about the ways that I have intentionally destroyed these aspects of my life, so as to reshape my own existence and rewire the very neuronal pathways inside my own brain.” She continues to go on and say, “I hope it inspires others to find that power within themselves. Because I believe that when we embrace the gray areas in life and in ourselves is where we can finally begin to cultivate real and tangible hope.”

“The Gray” has also been added to the “New Punk” Spotify playlist, a great step forward to gaining a greater hardcore punk playlist. You can listen to “The Gray” on their second full-length album, Transitional Forms. The album is expected to be released on July 10, 2020. Preorders are available to purchase through their website.
