Multigenre metal is further enriching the genre when it comes to broadening the soundscape for a more attractive quality of sound. Now more than ever, people are looking for more than just great vocals, chugging guitars, percussive splendor, or catchy hooks to try to attract your audio senses. Something else has to stand out if you want people to pay attention to you as a band. We travel to Kansas City, Missouri, where synthwave/metal act Young Medicine has long understood this concept and has taken it a step further with their latest release, "Winter Soldier." Not your typical mainline genre band, Young Medicine consistently delivers a level of unparagoned instrumental and lyrical progression to the scene that keeps you coming back for more.

YOUNG MEDICINE

Having released their full-length Interlinked in 2019, the unique, self-produced album caused quite a stir in the scene, combining retro flavors of ’80s imbued synth-rock, pop elements, metal, suffused with incredible usage of keytar elements. After receiving attention from many press publications, the band would land top spots on Top 10 Alternative New Artist Albums and on the Top 25 New Artist Heatseekers charts. They would soon garner attention from record label FIXT Neon, who would later sign the group for their gilt-edged sound in 2020.

Even with all this success before and during the pandemic, it seems that Young Medicine still has a lot to deliver with their latest red hot release, "Winter Soldier." "Winter Soldier" is an atmospherically gorgeous track that combines beautiful crafted dark-pop synths, deep and robust percussive elements, and emotionally imbruing lyrics that cling powerfully to the track's omnipotent electric guitar solos. It's a titanic of a track that shows just how great this band is at effectively chiseling out the kind of sound they want to make to fit their multigenre vision. Young Medicine had this to say about the track.

"Thematically it really digs into the themes of betrayal, forgiveness, and ultimately revenge… All stemming from an unhealthy relationship. Sound-wise, we really tried to combine our favorite elements of retrowave/synthwave. Huge reverbs and synth textures with our standard songwriting which usually revolves around a powerful chorus."

The future looks bright for Young Medicine, and this track has definitely set a confident tone if they continue to make these boldly impressive, arena-ready tracks for the future. Young Medicine never abides by genre labels, they just create, making each release they conjure up much more exciting than the last.
