Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Thursday & More Announce Signings to Velocity Records

Velocity Records has set the music world ablaze with some news that awoke the emo hearts of scene kids everywhere. For the uninitiated, Velocity Records began as an imprint of Rise Records by music agent Dave Shapiro back in 2009, a man who got his start in music labels at Equal Vision Records back in the 90's.  With a modern partnership with Equal Visions Records, Velocity Records made a slew of announcements that have sent tremors up and down the music scene, let's try to unpack this and go over the big names they've signed and announced today.

Scary Kids Scaring Kids/Dead American

Probably one of the BIGGEST surprises to come out of this news is Scary Kids Scaring Kids signing with Cove Reber as their vocalist. You know Cove, trust me, if you've ever heard “Voices” or “You're Not Alone” by Saosin you've heard of em, trust us. Reber's band Dead American also got scooped up which is only more good news. Dead American also features Kyle Rosa of Atreyu fame.

Thursday

The legends themselves signed and announced they will release represses and rereleases of old live albums and EPs. Geoff Rickley promised reissues of deep cuts and a pair of live albums so the news has us stoked for sure!

Eve 6

Do you like that “heart in a blender” song? It's crazy to think this alternative band used to set the 90s/early 00s on fire with their own brand of commercial radio bliss. Now, over 20 years later, genius-level hilarity in tweets airing out dirty laundry on old alt bands led to signing onto a label chock-full of emo/post-hardcore legends. But hey! It worked. Their new single "Black Nova" is a definite departure from the songs of old but it's a welcome addition for indie rock-loving fans.

Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows (D.R.U.G.S.)

Former Chiodos frontman Craig Owens is back making post-hardcore music and now has the support of a label once again. "King I Am" was released last year and has left everyone quaking in mystery when the line-up will be announced, the new album, a new single, new anything! The highly anticipated second album is on a lot of people's lists as everyone eagerly awaits.

SECRETS

Always impressive, SECRETS joined the fold and brought a lot of eager fans’ anticipation to a boiling point. A band that has been DIY for the last few years finally gets that label support and makes Scene Daddies and Mommies everywhere happy.

Honorable Mentions because let's face it, they've signed so many and this article could go on forever!

  • The Villa (Featuring members of Issue, Secrets, Woe Is Me and Nightmares)

  • Nate Bergman

  • Serpents Of Shiva (Ft. Scott Vogel)

  • Glasslands

  • No Devotion

  • And So I Watch You From Afar

This is a very exciting time for music fans!! Are you hyped? Get hyped!
