Review: Execution Day "Woe" Reimagined

In 2020, Pittsburgh native band Execution Day dropped one of the best EP's to date Illusionsproduced, mixed, and mastered, by none other than Andrew Wade. Known for working with other bands such as A Day To Remember, Neck Deep, and Issues, this EP would not only get them noticed in the scene, it would grant them to tour in the mid-west with likes of Falling In Reverse, The Plot in You, Like Moths to Flames, and many other notable acts in the scene.

While this all looks good on paper, the band has been showing while making it on their own, that you can have all the bells and whistles for people to notice you and still not be signed to a label to make it big in the metalcore scene. This is also proving to be true with their latest beautiful acoustic reimagined release, "Woe." From their latest EP release, Illusions, the band has taken a completely different atmospheric and denuded approach to the track, making it sonically immersive and delicate. Compared to the original track "Woe" on Illusions, which feels more energetic and massive instrumentally in its presence, this is more stripped down and raw vocally as well. The band had this to say about their latest reimagined track.

"We chose to reimagine 'Woe' not only because it is our most popular song to date, but also for the fact of how relatable the lyrics are. We felt that the lyrics could be better represented in a less aggressive, non-threatening way since this song is about a sensitive subject; depression and anxiety. The original version of the song is very in-your-face and fast-paced, so we took this version in a complete 180 and went back to the basics; acoustic guitar and light percussion. We felt like a "less is more" approach was absolutely needed to accomplish what we wanted to get across with the message of the song." - Dylan Dively
