Bleghhtooven’s Album of the Month: Graphic Nature - ‘A Mind Waiting To Die’

February was a strange month for me in terms of new music. With many of my most anticipated releases still on the horizon, I thought this past month would be an agonizing dry spell for great new material. However, I do love being proven wrong. February ended up having no shortage of outstanding releases. As far as selecting an Album of the Month goes, it came down to three albums: Foregone by In Flames, an outstanding album from a band who has helped shape metalcore into what it is today, Director’s Cuts by To The Grave, a gruesome deathcore endeavor featuring what I believe to be some of the best vocals in any deathcore band, and A Mind Waiting To Die by Graphic Nature, an album that I instantly fell in love with, by a band that I was entirely unfamiliar with prior to listening to this album. While it may be discovery bias, I ended up selecting the last as my February Album of the month.

A Mind Waiting to Die is an unrelenting barrage of aggressive mayhem that had me chomping at the bit for more. Graphic Nature has a raw energy that permeates into every aspect of what they do. Uptempo beats assault your senses before rolling into djenty, groovy breakdowns. Coarse vocals provide the perfect vessel for the harsh, heavy lyrics. This amalgamation of hardcore and nu-metal is very quickly becoming my favorite flavor of metalcore, and is an optimal representation of why I love this genre as a whole.
