Jake’s Mistakes Follow Up ‘KaI: Creaturae’ EP With “Motive for Obsession”

Gothic rock/metal project Jake’s Mistakes have followed up their introspective concept EP KAI: Creaturae with their new single “Motive for Obsession”. It is the first single to be featured on the band’s upcoming EP KAI: Impius Amans, the second installment of a three-part series surrounding the character KAI, currently set for an October 9th release.

Composed of Jacob Ekleberry of guitars'/vocals, Nate Gero on bass, and Johnny Schalk on drums, Jake’s Mistakes continues to focus on the negative emotions one experiences on a daily basis, but bringing specific attention to the ideas of obsession, heartbreak, and revenge on “Motive for Obsession”. Heavily influenced by the likes of My Chemical Romance and The Killers for this track, it’s easy to see where the dramatic flair and instrumental style came from. “The overlaying guitars and vocal delivery was a result of the Black Parade era of MCR while the leading bassline was directly inspired by "Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine" off the Hot Fuss Album by The Killers,” says Ekleberry.

Themes of heartbreak and revenge are exemplified in the lyrics of “Motive for Obsession”. “Run run Romeo, never trust a Juliet, she holds your heart in her hands" shows a sense of fear and mistrust from being stabbed in the back by a lover, while the lyric "You never said never again, leaving room for made up conclusions, well that's a motive for obsession" brings out the obsessive/revengeful aspects of the song.” Ekleberry continues, “Not finding the proper closure will drive you mad, and that's what has happened in this song.
