New Silverstein Single ‘BANKRUPT’ Blows It Up

“Bankrupt. Bankrupt. Bankrupt. Blow it up!” And that’s exactly what Silverstein did with their latest single, “BANKRUPT”, which dropped today, Thursday, April 15.  Blowing it up with breakdowns, the band was not teasing when they stated on Twitter the day before saying “BANKRUPT is the heaviest song we’ve ever made btw.” A day early if you are going by ‘new music Friday,’ yet this song was perfectly timed when it came to its drop. It was no mistake nor coincidence that a song based on capitalism would drop on Tax Day. Even for a Canadian band, this coincidence is too strong. Especially with a bridge like “Everybody’s got a knife to their neck. If they’re coming for them, they’re gonna come for you next. Nobody’s life is worth as much as the check. They're gonna sign it in blood with the tip of the bayonet.”

Matching the lyrics are breakdowns like no other Silverstein song in existence. For a band that has been around since 2000, you would start to expect a pattern, yet this is simply not true as Silverstein continues to pull every string and every trick that they have to create something new. Imagine a single created by the minds behind Bring Me The Horizon, Fever 333, and Silverstein. That was my initial thought when listening to “BANKRUPT.”  Despite having influences from other bands, this still holds true as a Silverstein song, especially within the chorus which Shane Told nails so beautifully. Instrumentally everything is on point, leading me to believe this could possibly be my favorite song of 2021.

The song was released at midnight, yet the music video premiered this morning, with the members of Silverstein chilling in the chat and engaging with fans who tuned in early enough for the first watch. The music video itself mimicked the feeling of attending a live Silverstein show, a personal performance for just yourself inside a stadium--pyrotechnics and all. The videography told its own story, the same as the lyrics do. For a split second I thought everything was okay in the world and I was back at the House of Blues watching one of my favorite bands grace the stage. Of course, we still have a long way to go before shows come back in full swing, yet this hope is something to hold on to and I am thankful to Silverstein for providing that. You can catch your own glimpse of hope by watching the music video on YouTube and streaming the single, available now on all streaming platforms.
