‘Our Last Day As Kids’ to Pay Tribute to the Nostalgic MySpace Era Scene Days

Did you spend the early 2000’s listening to bands like The Devil Wears Prada, Underoath, or Alexisonfire? Yeah, so did I. Have you ever wanted an emotionally riveting story from those days played out on the big screen; something you can truly relate to? That’s what drew me to ‘Our Last Day As Kids’, the creative mind project of Dylan Hryciuk. As the Owner and Creative Director of Versa Films, Dylan has been involved in bringing some of the most impactful music videos in the scene to life, such as “Constance” and “Hurt You” by Spiritbox and “I’m Sorry I’m Leaving” by Senses Fail. Now, Dylan is taking on the short film world with a project rooted in the DIY local music scene, and we at Scene Daddy couldn’t be more excited to help bring it to life.

Directed by Dylan Hryciuk, earning more than 2.8 million views on YouTube!

To make this dream a reality, as with most things in life, the project needs to be properly funded. To that end, ‘Our Last Day As Kids’ has launched an official Kickstarter, through which you can learn more about the project and personally contribute to bringing this story to life. From the ‘Our Last Day As Kids’ Kickstarter synopsis:

Our Last Day As Kids is a coming-of-age short film that takes place in the mid 2000's MySpace era. The film follows Casey, an awkward teen who documents his older brothers' band with his lofi camcorder in an attempt to be a part of the art they're making. As the film progresses, we watch the band and the connection Casey shares with his brothers fall apart, leaving him with a sense of loss and a lack of purpose. It is an unlikely friendship with a reckless punk girl that helps him cope and break out of his shell, as he helps her break out of hers.

The film takes inspiration from director Dylan Hryciuk's real life experiences documenting the local scene and his brothers' metalcore band, "Palms To The Sky" between 2006-2013 and is an ode to his youth, his brothers, and all the people that made the local scene what it was.”

By donating just $10 CAD (that’s only about $8 USD) to the project, you can earn your name in the end credits of the film! If you’d like to support the project even more, you can secure yourself exclusive merchandise, including a signed movie poster, limited edition shirts and buttons, and even a filmmaking course with the director.

While the initial launch of the Kickstarter campaign has already brought in roughly 30% of the project’s funding goal, there’s still a long way to go. To support this project, Scene Daddy, in partnership with Versa Films, has launched an official giveaway that includes test presses of Spiritbox’s Eternal Blue and Senses Fail’s Hell Is In Your Head, an ‘Our Last Day As Kids’ movie poster signed by the cast and crew, as well as Scene Daddy merchandise! While you simply need to like, tag, and follow on Instagram to be entered into the draw, you can earn even more entries by donating to this worthy endeavour. You can find full giveaway details here, as well as in the images below.

If you haven’t yet decided to follow one of the Kickstarter campaign links, please watch the following video to let Dylan himself convince you of why you should care about this project. Also be sure to follow the official ‘Our Last Mixtape As Kids’ playlist on Spotify to get a taste of the sort of soundtrack you can expect to hear!
