Premiere: Brooklane Deliver Quintessential Pop-Punk on “Breakaway”

Everyone knows that the best pop-punk songs are built to make good times out of bad feelings. In the midst of heartbreak, loneliness, and all kinds of other struggles, nothing feels better than singing along to your favorite band’s honest and heartfelt lyrics, especially when they are set to fun and lively music. North Dakota based pop-punk band Brooklane deliver this exact experience with their brand new single, "Breakaway", premiering today exclusively on Scene Daddy in advance of its official release on Friday, April 29th!

“‘Breakaway’ describes how a toxic relationship can take its toll on someone when they are controlled by them for too long,” says vocalist Alex Anderson. “You start to lose yourself and hold on to a false sense of love. Sometimes they will ignore you to pull you back in, so one of my favorite lyrical lines in the song is ‘Another missed call on your phone is all I'll ever be’.”

This single is the follow-up to the band’s debut EP Roll with the Punches, released via We Are Triumphant. “Breakaway” sees them continuing to evoke the heyday of 2010s pop-punk, drawing on influences like State Champs, The Story So Far, and We Are Triumphant alumni Neck Deep. The track contains some fresher elements that stray from tradition, like the bright and bouncy pop flourishes that decorate its opening riffs and the hip-hop beats in the bridge, but its sound and structure are that of the quintessential pop-punk hit. A key element of this is its killer chorus, which is bound to make huge crowds shout, “I’m worried by my mental state, this uncontrolled self hate / It’s getting stronger but it never grows older.” Anderson told us, “We love playing the chorus live because of its driving guitars and energy. I think it will give us a chance to really connect with the crowd and share a relatable moment with a lot of people who think they are alone dealing with something like this.”
