Some bands are born out of unlikely circumstance, with an interesting history that brings the members together and leads them to produce far more than they initially intended or anticipated. This is the case for Protect Your Heart, a California pop-punk act that formed when longtime friends who met making electronic dance music took a trip to Warped Tour a few years ago, and ended up with their own independently written, recorded, produced, and designed full-length record, [re]Introduction. An album was never part of the plan, as the original idea for this project was to make a few pop-punk tracks as a fun experiment, but the creativity that resulted in [re]Introduction just flowed out of them. After recruiting a vocalist in early 2020, Protect Your Heart were ready to bring their work to life.

Last year the band started releasing singles from this album and have already garnered attention from essential punk publication Discovered Magazine, who called them “one of the best pop-punk bands around in the scene right now”, and more. Given the content of the record, it’s inevitable that they will only continue to grow. Their “pop-punk with breakdowns” sound draws from artists like A Day to Remember, Chunk! No, Captain Chunk!, State Champs, and New Found Glory. Their songs are as catchy as any of the biggest hits from those acts, and the members’ years of experience in music production shine through. If you told me “Last To Love You’ was a pop-punk cover of a Taylor Swift song I’d have no trouble believing you, and this is a testament to the band succeeding in their “ultimate goal” to make “the heaviest pop music possible”. As stated by Protect Your Heart themselves, “throughout this album, you will experience emotionally-charged moments of catharsis, high-energy feel good anthems, and headbanging breakdowns. Ultimately, this album is a quintessential reflection of the members themselves—their passions, their experiences, and their desire to create something meaningful.”
