Chase Atlantic have released their new album BEAUTY IN DEATH on March 5th. The band has continued to execute their original and consuming style with catchy beats, some autotune, and don’t forget the saxophone. The trio’s songs have a dance-like feel mixed with a bit of r&b. Chase Atlantic has continued to also use the same influences for this album as past albums, including drugs, sex, and living life to the fullest (or finding the beauty in life before death).

Chase Atlantic has released four songs from the album leading up to the release, starting on August 14, 2020. These singles include “OUT THE ROOF,” “MOLLY,” “SLIDE,” and “EMPTY.” This album focuses more on Mitch Clave’s vocals with some minor vocals from Christian Anthony (lead guitar). In the past, Anthony has had more of a vocal role, but it seems Chase Atlantic is coming into their sound more and more; with this comes Mitch Clave to have more dominance vocally. It sounds as though they might have also changed the autotune on Anthony’s parts, and it might be a bit overdone at times.

This album is quite strong and gives off a dance vibe but also includes songs that you can simply chill to. Unfortunately, even though there are good beats, the lyrics don’t go as deep as the album title wants you to believe. The trio sometimes seems to be a bit self-absorbed in some of their lyrics, like they are basically “Gods” in some way… right. Even a catchy beat can’t cover up that there is no depth to the lyrics; unfortunately. Also, it sounds as though the band was trying to sound a bit like Travis Scott in “OUT THE ROOF,” but in a more emo way.

If you aren’t tired of hearing Chase Atlantic sing about sex, drugs (and maybe being closer to death than they let on), being indestructible, and sometimes being sad, then you will like this album. This album follows their previous album, PHASES, and continues with the same sound and style, but is it time to mix things up? You can hear multiple music influences in the songs, but is it horrible to say the beginning of their career might have been better? It may also have to do with the band being originally signed by the Madden brothers, from Good Charlotte, and Chase Atlantic having recently been signed to Fearless Records. Who knows, but for now, this chill yet catchy album will have to do.
