Somewhere in Denver, Colorado, there is a hidden talent pool that has manifested some amazing progressive metal talent. Birthed from this place comes a tremendously talented band, Mnmlst. Defying the traditional sound one finds within this genre, it’s refreshed and injected with some uncommonly good and challenging musical vigor with this band’s latest independent release Anmls.

Mnmlst

From the beginning, we get an explosive introduction to Mnmlst with “Nomad (Fox)”. Saying that this is a whole other breed of progressive metal magic doesn’t even scratch the surface of what’s really going on here in this track. From it’s impressive guitar time signatures, bellicose drum-work, and standout mid to low vocal prowess, it’s practically impossible not to crave more after this track finishes.

This unearthly energy continues throughout the EP as Mnmlst continues to awe and inspire fans with one amazing experience after the next. Just when you feel they have shown their hand, something else more elaborate and intriguing jumps through to keep us invested in whats to come. “Climates (Elk)” is a prime example of this. With skilled, quick paced guitar and drums throughout mixed with attractive melodic pieces sewn into the tracks seams, it makes the listening experience all the more impacting and powerful than the last.

"Monarch (Wolf)", the shortest track on Anmls, is the hidden gem in an already immensely fantastic EP. With its frantic back and forth introduction of chaotically symphonic guitar chords that answer back to the heavy instrumental beauty, it cannot be overstated that this is masterfully crafted atmospheric work. The lyrics and vocals are only the icing on top of creativity of this EP.

Anmls presents itself as a product of progressive sorcery that will captivate anyone who loves progressive metal, while redefining what this genre should be doing.
